Why first-year calculus catches people out
Very few students fail university calculus because of calculus. They fail because of algebra and trigonometry that was never automatic — and at university pace there is no time to shore it up mid-term. Lectures move faster than high school, office hours are crowded, and the gap between "I followed the lecture" and "I can do it under exam conditions" is much wider than students expect.
How we teach it
We diagnose whether the problem is calculus or the algebra underneath it, and fix the real one. Sessions work through problems the way an exam demands rather than the way a lecture presents them. Students preparing for midterms get timed practice, because speed is a separate skill from understanding.
Coming from Math 31?
Math 31 is a real head start, but it does not cover the full first-year syllabus — integration techniques and series usually go well beyond it. See our Math 31 page if you are still in high school.
