Where students actually struggle
Math 30-1 is the single most consequential course on most students' transcripts — it is a prerequisite for engineering, science, business and most competitive programs. The trig identities and log units defeat capable students, and the diploma's time pressure punishes anyone who is still deriving rather than recalling.
How we teach it
We work backwards from released diploma questions, so practice matches the actual exam rather than the textbook. Identities and logarithms get disproportionate time because that is where marks are lost. We also drill exam pacing — knowing the content is not the same as finishing in time.
Math 30-1 diploma exam preparation
Math 30-1 carries a provincial diploma exam worth 30% of the final grade. We run released diploma questions throughout the year rather than only in the final weeks, so exam format is familiar long before April. Pacing and numerical-response accuracy are practised as separate skills from content.
